When you see it through your own eyes, you believe it!!
With this belief, SDRO organized a training workshop for aspirants in Observational Astronomy and Rocketry in Ahlcon Public School, Mayur Vihar, Delhi on October 11, 2017. As a partner in Space investigating and Astronomy awareness program, SDRO with a team of scientists, engineers, passionate researchers and educators conducted the workshop on deep space exploration and rocket launching for enthusiastic school students. The aim of the workshop was to prepare students with the scientific temperament and get a hands-on experience of using telescope for sky gazing. The entire atmosphere in the evening was filled with a spirit of gazing throughout the deep space, providing a relaxing and cozy setting.
After a long wait for night to happen and temperatures to get reasonable, the event started with an introductory session covering areas related to general astronomy, sky observation techniques and celestial navigation. The students learned about general astronomy.
Rocket Launch Activity
The workshop continued to create a fun moment for students with a hands-on activity conducted by SDRO team to help them launch rocket on their own. The activity was performed by each student to get practical understanding of how a rocket can be modeled and launched due to high air-pressure. The activity was purposed to give a brief understanding of the phenomenon used behind the rocket launch. It was thoroughly enjoyed by the students as well as the school staff, watching their own rocket launching successfully into the sky.
Formation of Clouds
The workshop was carried further with a demonstration of cloud formation just by playing with the science of physical reaction and achieving a look-alike of sky clouds. The activity aimed to give students an idea of preparing clouds through simple physics experiment. Students found it exciting to form clouds by themselves. The instructors provided them valuable information based on cloud formation as well as space clouds.
After all these fun science activities, the students got an opportunity to witness a Newtonian telescope which is powerful enough to see far away stars, star clusters, nebulae, planets, moon, asteroids and much more. The sky gazing activity through telescope was accompanied with an insightful learning of various space objects and operating the telescope. The school staff and guardians were equally intrigued and participated in sky gazing. As per the scheduled time and position of stars during that instant, students were able to view Nebulae, Baby Star, Saturn rings and Moon which were clearly visible.
SDRO team encouraged the students time to time to view through the lenses, if they had hard time seeing the star clusters. The evening ended very well with the briefing of many astronomical insights related to nebulae, star formation, space clouds and many more, making it altogether a highly motivational and learning experience for participants.
SDRO with a team of enthusiastic scientists, passionate science researchers and educators executed the entire program to make learning about stars, planets, moon and rocket modeling easy and fun.
Keeping the developmental stage and attention span of children in mind, SDRO made viewing of space objects easy and approachable for students.
